Second stop of my 320 mile trip.
Opened August 1962, closed September 1991. Locked on original padlocks. Externally paint is a bit shabby, but all features remain intact including metal louvres on the main hatch and vent shaft.
Situated, in a very boggy compound, 200m east of the A835 Ullapool to Ledmore road just north of the hamlet of Elphin. It enjoys an elevated position with commanding views of the famous Assynt mountains.
If anyone is interested, the mountain in the background is Canisp
The hatch, With Suilven in background
Disappointing, but the drama of the scenery made it worthwhile
