Slowly working my way through these bunkers we hear so little about piecing together the little info about these gems, to be honest I didn’t think they existed but since getting into Chellow Heights with work then getting to see the one at Elvington my interest has gone through the roof, so luck just had it I was on another of the locations today with work. I finished what I needed to do so thought I’d have a drive round the facility, had an idea where it was and found her straight away. Very similar to the top of Elvingtons bunker with one main access, a vent shaft then the escape hatch set around 40ft away from the main access. One thing that struck me was how modern it was, the main access was padlocked closed, escape hatch was around 20ft deep to the bottom, a single light switch at the bottom of the shaft, the hole from the escape hatch to the bunker has a door, locked from the inside unfortunately. No water at all and again from the little I saw it struck me as very clean and even smelt ‘nice’. Curiosity got the better of me so I went to find the facility manager to ask to see if he would allow me in and unlock the main access....... my luck he was in a meeting. I’m going to persevere with these and get in and put report together on them all, something they deserve.
