We had actually been on the way somewhere else when a message pinged from @the Raw (massive thanks for the tip-off). Now when he gave the heads up about this place we simply couldn't turn down the opportunity. Luck was definitely on our side as it turned out we were 20 minutes away and it was en-route to where we were headed.

Excitedly we arrived at the location only to be faced with security cameras down the side of the building, thinking we were thwarted I pinged another message to The Raw to see if they had been there when he went. After receiving confirmation we weren't about to be hunted down by the Italian Carabinieri, we buggered off to find the entrance at the other side of the building.

I love machinery, I mean really, really love it. I rarely have a clue what any of it does but I still adore it, it's just sooooooooo pretty and this was machine porn heaven! and an added bonus, for once I knew what most of it did. Happy days :) (well ok happy several hours :p ).

We spent the next few hours carefully mooching around taking pics and generally drooling over the lovely machinery. Now I say carefully mooching around and there is a reason for that.........

Whilst it had been pointed out that the place had been used by squatters, it had not been pointed out that they had literally shit everywhere! The floor was littered with pile after pile of poo and used tissues. It was grim as fuck and we were on constant poo watch to make sure none of us stood in anything.

I had one close call when I was taking a picture, I crouched down in a darkened room and nearly sat on a huge pile of squatter turd. Fortunately, I just spotted it in time and hauled my ass way up in the air and out of its gooey brown reach!

I really liked this place, and for once I like my pics too so getting this down to 30 was a massive challenge. Anyway here is some history and I hope you enjoy the photos too.

History

The company was founded in 1952. They insisted on only using the best yarns and production methods. Over time the company grew to be among the best in the market in the manufacturer of socks for men, women's casual sock wear (socks, tights,foot-saver), children and newborn socks.

The technological know-how and knowledge within the industry allowed them to be the first company in Italy to work silver fibres into their stockings production, creating a product with unprecedented benefits (antistatic action, antibacterial, thermoregulatory, anti-stress, ideal for avoiding swelling during long haul travel). The use of fine yarns like silk, linen and cashmere rendered their products truly unique.

They sold in only the best Italian and foreign stores and was divided into various lines of products:

Man Collection of classic socks,
Menswear Prestige (socks with yarn highly selected and natural),
Man Initials (only on order with the initials woven at the ankle or the calf),
Dynamic (modern, colourful, unisex),
Be-being (problem-solving: antibacterial, antifungal),
Woman (casual socks, tights, pantyhose, shoe liners),
Baby & Junior (for newborns and child, socks, tights, pantyhose, shoe liners),
Ivory (for newborn and baby, luxury, ceremony, in fine packaging ivory).

It is unknown as to why production stopped at the factory but it gives the impression of everyone literally just downing tools, walking out and closing the door behind them never to look back. The last calendar found hanging on the MDs office wall was from 2005.
