These buildings were erected under the Labour Government in order to centralise all the fire brigades across counties into regional brigades. This never came to fruition in most cases with only London Merton being used by the Fire Brigade and the rest laying dormant. They DID belong to the MOD but are now owned by investors who are desperate to mothball them as rigid maintainance contracts and security cost each site £75k a month.

The only ones in use are South West, London, Wolverhampton and Scotland meaning 5 lay dormant. I work at one of the five and as Security, we're being phased out. Access is tight but not impossible and most of them are full of interesting different layouts and technology. (For example, each site has two 14,000cc Cummins Marine Engine powered Gennies).

They're not large buildings, but can take a good hour to get around. The only issue would be accessing each area. But I just thought I'd bring it to light as, as said, they seem to be locking them down one by one.

Yep mate - we've discussed them at length a few times.

Can I suggest, however, that you keep your work and forum lives separate - you wouldn't be the first to drop themselves in the sh*t by posting the sort of thing that you have..

Remember, if you can see it, then so can your boss, his manager, the owners of sites, etc.

Didn't realise they'd been discussed. Nobody seems to know they're here to be fair. But as you are, just thought I'd bring it to light.

Ahh, I guess I have to pay to get access to that bit then... No matter :)
