So my partner and I have just started looking into abandoned places so really new to this and finding places to go, tried one local to us which resulted in alarms going off and a ruptured calf muscle for me when I legged it! so while away for the weekend we decided to look up any places near where we were, the first was Ryton House in Coventry, took us around an hour to find it as it was late at night, however we were unable to gain access inside as it was fenced off the whole way round, looked like it had been done fairly recently.
We then looked up Great Tew Manor and decided to go there today on our way home. Found it easily, was a bit wary of going in broad daylight after reading other people post about the owners who live in an attached building, we walked round a few times as the entrances had all been secured and nailed shut. Just as we were about to leave we looked one more time and found a way in right in front of us. Having never done this before I have to say the Adrenalin rush was something I’ve never experienced before, absolutely loved it! The basement was probably my favourite part, felt really creepy down there and so cold.
Had a good look round but didn’t come prepared so there’s a lot we didn’t see, took so many pics but won’t fill my first post up with them all.
Definitely planning to go back again soon to spend longer with better camera and torches.
Hoping to find more places soon

Nice to see some up to date photos of the place. Pretty much the only thing left worth exploring in Oxfordshire now, albeit so much emptier than it was eight or nine years back when I spent more than a few days there.

I found it absolutely fascinating how that one great hall is pretty much undamaged, was truly the wow factor walking in there. I can imagine it was pretty different when you were there those years ago, we definitely didn’t explore it’s full potential which is why I want to go back. Definitely have the bug for this now

Last time I popped down the road to it was 2013, and some of the insides were in a perilous state back then. A whole part of the interior had been collapsed and missing for decades, the area boarded off internally. I always found it weird how I'd go there on different occasions and internal doors that had been open previously were locked shut and ones that had been locked were opened up randomly, you never knew what to expect.

There were a lot of doors boarded off, one on the top floor had been broken open but the floor inside had totally disintegrated, there was another staircase too that had fallen I’m not sure if that led up to a different part to the main one. That’s really strange about doors being locked/unlocked, a number of them today were locked, I’ll try them again next time we go. Did you ever get seen by the people who live there?

Never had any bother off either the estate owners who live in the house behind it or the resident living in the sectioned off part at the end of the house.

I should make the effort to look at this next time I’m that way.

Decent first report this, keep at it :)

Great first post! I tried this last year when I was in the area. Just happened to be the one day of the year they were having a bloody music festival in the grounds haha!
