Fort Burgoyne is polygonal in shape with a 35 foot wide dry ditch around it. It was completed in 1868 at a total cost of £88,053.

It was built to protect the rear of Dover Castle as it was felt that this was very open to attack. The Fort was also designed so that if it was overrun that it was open for incoming fire from Dover Castle.

We set out on a dark, wet night with no idea on access and after some searching found a way down into the heavily overgrown ditch.
Certainly livened things up in the rain!!
Any way here are some pics from the left caponier, as always any advice on improving my pics is welcome as i still have my L plates on!:thumb
