This fort was built in 1874 at the same time as the Fort Basses Perches after the Franco-Prussian war to defend the Belfort Gap. The fort is still owned by the French Military and used for training. This fort does not have the later Counterscarp Galleries as in Fort Basses Perches but has the older design using Caponniers to defend the moat.
