Fort Luton was one of the Medway Forts built between 1876 and 1892 in the south of Chatham. Although it was never armed, it took part in the war games held by the Army in the 1900's, including a trial siege in 1907. The site was last used in the 1990s as a model museum, of which I have some great memories, walking through the tunnels, seeing the models, including "The Mole" from Thunderbirds (the sorry frame of which can be seen in one of my photos). The site has been closed for some years, and the main entrance has been fenced in.
In 2006 the site was broken into and vandalised. Something like £100,000 worth of damage was caused and items stolen. Personally I think it was this break in which sealed the fate of Fort Luton never to open to the public again.
Anyways after a night visit to scope out the site, we managed an (incredibly difficult) access to take a few photos.
If anyone does try to visit the site, be warned, it is live, and the owner appears to live on site!
Quite a few photos, and I apologise now as HDR isn't everyone's cup of tea, but i'm still playing with a new lens and trying to get them right.
