I've wanted this beast of a power station since I found out it existed in 2011.
Timeline:
Construction began 01 April 1954
Unit A (100MW) - 09 July 1955
Unit B (100MW) - 26 August 1955
Units C & D (150MW each) - 1957
Units E & F (150MW each) - 1959
Units G, H & J (150MW each) - 1960
Units K, L & M (150MW each) - 1962
Units N & O (150MW) - 1964
Unit P (Paula) (300MW) - 1966
Unit Q (Quelle) (300MW) - 1970
In 1970, it was the largest thermal power station in the world with 16 turbines and an output of 2600MW.
Then it began to slowly shut down:
Units A & B - 30 June 1988
Unit H - 2005 due to turbine damage
Units C, D & G - November 2011
Units J & K - March 2012
Units E, F, H, L, M, N and O - 31 December 2013
Units P and Q have been on standby since 01 October 2017 and will be shut down on 01 October 2021.
