A little history, this Distillery was first opened in 1875 by the Glenglassaugh Distillery Company, to take advantage of the local spring-water and barley fields. It was taken over in the 1890s by Highland Distilleries Co Ltd, who owned up until this year, when it was sold to a Dutch Consortium. It was first closed in 1907, reopened in 1931, closed again in 1936. Between 1956-60 it was completely renovated and also re-equipped, then closed again in 1986 for the last time. It has lain dormant since then, although the Dutch consortium plan to re-open, apparently in 'late 2008'. They'll need to pull their finger out from what we saw today
