The school originally started out in the 1920s as Glossop Grammar and moved to its Talbot Street site in 1959. As the years went by and after various changes of name and mergers with neighbouring schools, the site was awarded ‘Specialist Performing Arts College’ status in 2005. In 2017 a brand new school was built, leaving the aging Talbot Street site redundant. There is currently a planning application for demolition of the former school to ‘prevent the site becoming a magnet for vandalism’.

Useless fact regarding Glossopdale School; Vivienne Westwood was a former pupil here!

We had originally clocked this place while driving out to nearby Shire Hill Hospital in March but afterwards promptly forgot about it. It wasn’t until @Scoobysrt posted it in Leads & Rumours that we decided to have a look while in the area again. Quite a large place, typical looking 50s/60s build.

There is apparently a swimming pool and gym lurking somewhere but unfortunately we didn’t get to it in the time we had.

No tripod was used here, so the pictures unfortunately look like phone specials.

I went to that school, left in 1988. Nice memories, thanks.

btw, there isn’t a swimming pool there, but there is a sports hall and a gym.

also Stuart hall was also a pupil there, least said about that the better....

also sat in that lecture theatre being shown videos about aids in the mid 80s.
