Had my eye on this place for ages. It's not been covered on here before as this place has been sealed for some time. However the opportunity arose so down I popped. Very little history on the place but this is the underground Victorian reservoir of the Grantham Water Company which was formed in 1855. It's at the top of a hill which allowed it to use gravity to feed the growing market town with the water supply it needed.

Haven't really done much subterranean stuff bar Megatron. The light was pretty much non-existent so quite challenging photography-wise. Tripod essential. Tried painting with light and using conventional flash. The biggest issue was the auto-focus wouldn't work very well so lots of blurred reject shots. Anyhow got some half-decent pictures in the end so here they are.

Here's the main gate:

The former access point got sealed back in 2008. Not too sure who Bazoo is though:

There's something interesting down there:

Is this the way in? Nope.

And we're in!

There's some rusty pumps:

And lots of bricks:

and arches:

Plus a bit of rubble here and there:

And there's that alternative entrance point at the far end:

Think I picked the right way in!

And lots of rusty cross-struts:

Apart from that it's pretty empty as you would expect:

Might be worth removing the pics showing the way in.
Looks like a good explore otherwise :thumb

good effort considering you had trouble focussing in the dark, there are a few helpful tips for doing that if you need them ;)

That's rather nice.
Focus using the torch then put the camera in manual so it doesn't search again when the torch is off.

Oh - yes please....all tips gratefully received.

as Darbians said focus with the torch.so to elaborate on that, with a decent bright torch find the spot in the area your in that you want to focus on,shine torch let camera autofocus on that spot then as Darbians said switch it to manual so the camera doesn't search for focus,it helps to have your dslr set so you can manually choose the focus point !

Cheers Wevsky...really helpful advice. Problem was with the shots looking all the way along the touch wasn't strong enough so the camera wouldn't auto-focus in the first place.

without this turning into torch debate..what torch do you use? and when i first encountered this problem myself one of the lads suggested running up the tunnel and dropping a head torch facing back to the camera and focussing on that..it helped then i got a decent torch

if you got a p7.2 you should have no real problem focussing on the spot beam.if you can't get it as far down a tunnel as you would like choose a point on the floor as far away as it will focus on!
