Oh that day room...
after looking at that older 1950's picture, its like I can feel the body warmth and the sweat of all those patients in that room together, even though the next shot is a derelict one.
Thats a very haunting and effective aspect you bring to this report.

It is hard to imagine how cramped these wards were, with four beds across and only a chair between them. Looking at it in the flesh, I think they were designed for three beds across.
The picture maybe alot older and taken after the First World War, when Graylingwell was utilised as a military hospital. The nurses look the part too for 1920's era.

Imagine a vomiting and diarrhea outbreak in those conditions... Yuk...
I would imagine something of that nature would've spread very fast given the proximity of the beds.

Moving set of photos. I worked at Graylingwell for three years in the early 1970s and have particularly fond memories of Farm House.
