This site consists of the Great Northern Warehouse (1857 by T C Hine, who was also responsible for the Adams Building and the Great Northern Railway Station, as well as the restoration of Nottingham Castle after it was burnt down in 1831) and the adjacent James Alexander Warehouse (late 19th Century; also known as the James Alexander Building), to the east.

The Grade II listed Great Northern Warehouse was badly damaged by fire in 1998 and is now little more than a shell propped up by scaffolding. The James Alexander Warehouse is reasonably intact, though derelict.

The bodies of two murdered homeless women were found here in 2005 and the site has an edgy feel to it. As well as being used by homeless people, the buildings are frequented by drug dealers and other folk who you probably wouldn't want to bump into on a bright, sunny day, let alone a dark night.

Aside from that, it's an interesting explore. The area is part of the Eastside Regeneration Zone and there are grand plans for future redevelopment, so we will doubtless recall our visit with misty-eyed emotion in years to come while wandering bemusedly past 'high quality office space' and 'stylish new homes'.
