This is my first post on a forum of anykind so I hope it is ok.
My Brother in Law and I are keen photographers and my main interest is in photographing engineering and old architecture.

The Groverake Mine, located between Rookhope and Allenheads, was the last operating commercial fluorspar mine in Weardale, and also provides some rather nice photo opportunities.

As you can see the snow was still quite thick after the unusually cold weather in march this year.

I wouldn't advise venturing further down the drift than this due to the number of small caved in areas from this point on.

I would also advise caution near the shaft entrances - it's a long way down!

Also the steel is heavily rusted on the stairs and platforms so be careful as always and don't go on your own. No phone signal out here and you could be stuck for a long time if something happens to you.
