Yes i know its been done before but i heard it was getting demolished soon so while i was passing i thought id get a look before it was gone for ever.
It sounds somewhat retro – perhaps even garish – nowadays, but in the context of its time Sheffield’s Hallam Tower was as elegant as they came. It even hosted the Swiss football team during the 1966 World Cup and appeared in an advert for the Ford Galaxie 500.
Like so many modernist structures, however, the years haven’t been kind and were it not for the building’s iconic status in Sheffield, many may be more inclined to see it as an eyesore – and some already do.
In 1978 the hotel was sold to Forte Holdings and changed hands again during the 1980s and ’90s. By the time it became part of the Holiday Inn chain in 2001, the beginning of the end was fast approaching. On April 18, 2004 the Hallam Tower finally closed, as did its Spirit Health Club, which had once boasted a membership including football players, Sheffield boxing champion Herol ‘Bomber’ Graham and this author.
If nothing else, the abandoned Hallam Tower still offers great views.

Seeing all this makes me want to visit Hallam Towers even more before its gone for good, but the scare of asbestos is keeping me away :( . The view from the top looks insane!!

Just a heads up for anyone considering visiting here... The access that was used previously has been sealed up at some point in the past few days. So unfortunately there is currently no way to get inside the building until someone breaks it open again.

Such a shame it's coming down… I went in December when the weather and light was terrible and was hoping to go back and get some better shots. Anyone got any recent photos of the place with these new security measures you mention?

Some superb shots mate, great stuff! I really want to try getting in here, I visited the site in March but the wall on the first floor left me no way in. Does anyone know if this is now accessible again?

Been a few times as of late it is accessible but maybe not so much for the larger person or not so nimble! Definitely worth the squeeze though!

Sooooo. Completely new to this site as a member anyway but been into urbanx for a while. Decided to pay this place a visit with a few pals as we live in a reasonable distance. Overall it was a awesome place but a little sketchy and plagued with holes in the floor. We had a good nosy and made our way to the roof of the building to admire the view... next thing a load of the local 'chavs' came in and decided to start throwing doors and other bits out of the windows, waving torches around like a sos, screaming, shouting and smashing the place up. they then proceeded (whilst we was watching from the rooftops) when they had left the building to start abusing a woman hanging out the window of a flat right next to the building who had informed them shed rang the police. We waited till they had gone to make a swift exit and they had only gone and wedged pretty damn securely a massive sheet of chipboard about 20mm thick in the only decent way in and we couldn't budge it. After waiting 20 minutes trying to scope a way out we ended up having to climb from 3 stories up out a hole in a wall down the side of to hear building, my friend injured themselves badly and hyperventolated. When we was walking back to our cars the police arrived. pretty narrow escape but it just shows what arseholes go in these places and we don't all have the same intentions. Peace everyone
