Raptor Jesus, James and I met up recently, and struggling for ideas for something local to explore felt it was rude not to pay a visit to the recently reported Hardys and Hansons brewery near Nottingham. Thanks to FUR:Q for access info.
Brewing in Kimberley dates back to the 1830s, when Samuel Robinson used water from the Alley Spring to brew beer commercially. This same spring was used by Stephen Hanson when he opened a brewery in 1847. Heanor beer merchants William and Thomas Hardy acquired Robinson's brewery in 1857.
Hardy built the existing brewery building in 1861, the two breweries were rivals until the breweries began to run short on water in the early 20th century. In 1930 they both merged to form Hardys and Hansons.
In 2006 the brewery was acquired by Greene King whom closed the brewery, ending over 130 years of brewing history in Kimberley.
I'm possibly mistaken, however I'm lead to believe that brewing starts at the top, so we went to the very top of the building....
And ended up on the roof.... something tells me they don't start making beer up here, though what do I know?
Much of the brewing equipment has been sadly removed

And then into the Maltings building I think...
