Information about this places history seems a bit scant but these days it seems to be known as the place where there is a massive hanging monkey. This can be seen from the other side of the canal.

Had a day off and was heading up to this area anyway. Had never heard of this place but it looked like it could be a decent mooch about. It took me about an hour to try and work out how to actually get to the place without needing to wade through water but once I came to my senses, access was straight forward and there was no security or anything. Perfect.
