Hartford Mill, built in 1907 by FW Dixon and Son as a cotton spinning mill. During its working life it would have housed thousands of looms spinning raw cotton into thread 24/7 and is rumoured to have had up to had 120,000 Platt's spindles in use at the height of production.
To the rear of the mill is the beautifully tiled and stunningly immense engine hall that once contained a 1500hp Urmson engine bringing life to the looms and spindles of the mill.
After its closure in 1959 it has had little use, a small stint as a warehouse for Littlewoods goods, and is now ear marked for re-development along with the surrounding rows of empty terraced streets.
Apologies for pics, all done on a phone to an unfortunate 'butter fingers' incident with my cam...
