Historys and futrues

High Marnham Power Station opened in 1959 and closed in 2003 after nearly 45 years in operation.
The stations chimneys were demolished in 2004
Sadly its 150ft high boiler house followed in 2006 leaving only the Water Pumping house, the pipeline bridge and the 5 cooling towers standing today.

EON like many generators are planning on putting new development on their old sites much the same as RWE are at Willington they quote

"We are considering building a new Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) gas-fired power station at High Marnham. The new plant would be built on the site of a former coal-fired station and would be capable of producing up to 1,600MW of electricity – that’s enough to supply more than two million homes and businesses. If granted planning permission, the new plant could be operational by 2018 and would play a key role in helping to keep the UK’s lights on at a time when new power stations are urgently needed."

Two excellent archived reports show former glory linky and linky

Pictures are from a winter Recce and a visit with Tcake
