High street tunnel is 557 yds long and took 3 years to build the 1st train passed trough in 1875 ,it contains only 3 plate layers refuges and is a unusual shape .the line closed to passengers in 1951 and to goods in 1958 .the tunnel is open at both ends ,some of the brick work is in poor condition .the tunnel is now a bat hibernation site .visited with a t shirt with a picture of explorer dog binky on it :rolleyes:

glad you found it ok
did you have a look at the other tunnel?

we stopped at skeggy for a couple of days so binky had to stay at home didnt get to the other tunnel as i was looking in the wrong place turned out what i thought was the tunnel on gogle earth was where the track has been back filled

Nice report. Been through this one myself considering it's only just off a back road in the middle of nowhere. The other tunnel mentioned isn't hard to get to although the ideal route passes right next to a house and farmyard so a quick chat with the farmer would be advisable.
