History - Holdings Country Pottery was founded circa 1898 on a large clay deposit in Lancashire. It used its own clay, which was dug, blended, washed and processed before being made into passes for the potters wheel. Since the start of the century until its closure little changed in the process and the factory opened its doors to visitors so that they could see the craftsmen creating ‘Waldian Ware’ in the traditional way. The family tradition was started by James Holding in 1842 a mile or so from the present site which was opened around 1900 by James’s sons and grandsons. The Pottery then proceeded to stay within the family as generations passed and took over management of the factory until its closure in the 1990's.

Explore - This place has been done many times over the years but we've always fancied a look. We thought it looked like it would be a chilled out explore. Access was very easy and we had no issues while we were looking round. There's so much random stuff to look at we spent a good hour here. All in all an enjoyable explore.

Thanks. We've had this place pinned for ages as well, glad we finally ticked it off the list.

Do like these old potteries. Some great photos there. Snowy photos always make a different too. Liked this

I'm just always happy when we get to a place with little or no graffiti. Feels like a better explore to me at least.

We popped up there this week. As soon as we parked up this jobsworth walked over to us stating will call police if we tried to enter the pottery. Maybe next time try a different approach to it.
