Visited with Snake Oil
This had been on our to-do list for a while now, and due to the ever looming threat of demolition (Bolton Council wanting to build 1600 homes) we decided to go and have a look-see, the sheer scale and size of the site and buildings is very impressive.
The erecting shed, being the largest disused loco shed in the country was our target. The site has 24 hour security and is awash with cameras, and we had a big shock when we came across workers demolishing one of the buildings; on a Sunday over Christmas, wasn't expecting that.
Anyway, there's loads of information of the site on the internet as it was once a major part of our ever-dwindling railway heritage.
