History
Hucclecote school opened in 1960. It was a mixed secondary modern school and later became a mixed comprehensive school. In 1984 there were 559 pupils on the register. Three of Fred and Rose Wests' children went there.
The school closed in 1988 and from 1990 became Hucclecote curriculum centre and was used as offices, conference centre and an adult learning faculty. A neighbour who is a retired primary school teacher remembers going there for meetings and training sessions. The Hucclecote Curriculum Centre closed in March 2011.
Planning permission was granted for 53 new houses on the site, the building was demolished and the houses are now built and occupied.
The Visit.
This was a lone visit and I didn't have very long in there. It hadn't been used as a school for over 20 years so most of the evidence that it had been a school was gone. Sadly there were no classrooms, science labs etc. It was in excellent condition. I haven't seen it documented anywhere so I thought I would post the pictures I took.
I hope someone rescued the artwork.
The artist's design and explanation of the artwork.
Snakes should be what?
One of the few signs it had been a school. Sports hall which had later been covered with carpet tiles.
Where do all the flies come from? Every room was like this. I wonder what died in there?
In a tiny room at the top of the building was a bed.
And some items strewn over the floor including a baby shoe, a marriage certificate, cheque book and bank card.
This is the notice which is behind the shower in the last picture. I would love to have seen the incident which led to this being put on the wall.
View from the head teacher's office.
Demolition June 2014.
