Hurst Sand Quarry
- Hurst Quarry - quarrying abandoned in 2014
- Was a 19th-20th century sand quarry; likely established to supply the local pottery industry with fine sand.
- It seems to be being used by a farmer. There are 3-4 trailers stored on the site, along with a tractor.
- Evidence of a few minor landslides
- Lots of wildlife - was spooked by a rabbit at least once....

The site has a beautiful spaghetti western feel to it, especially in the baking sun. The red rocks, the sand underfoot and the rusted shacks will have me coming back for a few dollars more.
Thus, here is the good, the bad and the ugly of this site...

The Good

As you can see, some really beautiful rust going on here.

This bike skeleton was reminiscent of the cattle skull trope often used in films to signify a savannah or desert.. Example

The "Bad"

This is sort of "it". I don't want to belittle how endearing this site is, but it's relatively small as quarries go. Plus, I needed to have something for "The Bad" section.

The Ugly

"Simple problems require simple solutions"
The main warehouse at the entrance is inaccessible and doors have been sealed shut, in a variety of ways. But I can live without that, the quarry still has plenty to offer.

BONUS CONTENT

At one point I stumbled across a mat with "28" sprayed on it.. "Hmmm" I thought, this must be a nod to that forum I joined.
I began to feel a real sense of community, thinking how cool it was to be part of this little thing of ours. Then a bit further along the cliff face I found a "27"....
then a "26"
then a "25
etc...

I really liked this place when we went. Has a real wild west feel to it as you said. Great pics and you climbed the big building which I kind of wish I'd done but the sound of it creaking in the wind put me off....

I wish I could take credit for that but I'll be honest with you... that wasn't the big building (I'm awful with heights). Running up the conveyor seemed tempting, but I was there alone and I didn't trust it either.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who got the wild west feel; it's a spectacular location. It was easy to forget which country I was in at times. Next time I go, I will be bringing some soundtracks and renacting high noon scenes

Went here the other day, but there were some cows in the barn that told us to bugger off... so i'm guessing it's not quite abandoned. Didn't see any farmers though.

Few pics I took.........

Last time I was there (it's a good spot to fly the freestyle fpv drone) I got turfed off when a couple of tractors turned up on site. There was more and more farm equipment turning up over summer so I'm guessing someone has found a use for the place. Some nice stuff left and worth a look around.
