When i saw a recent report on this place i had realised it was somewhere i was going to visit some years ago and never got round to it. So i thought lets go for it and made the long journey over to Ayrshire. I am very glad i did too well worth the effort of an early morning lots of walking especially through prickly gorse bushes undergrowth and sand dunes etc etc. This report tends to be centered on the power station as i had heard this was one of the best parts of this huge site. The history has been covered by people much more qualified than me suffice to say it had around 13 thousand people employed there at its peak and closed down sometime in the 1990s. Though i believe there are some bits still in use today.
old packaging
This building was one of the first i entered in a bad state of repair very close to the power plant.
looking back on that building.
Having climbed this huge sand dune on getting to the top this is what greeted me at last i had made it in front of me lay the power plant.
The first part i came across was this workshop.
Once in the main part of the plant this is what greeted me on the second floor i must admit i was in awe of the place having said that though as i wandered through i couldnt help think i was 2 or 3 years to late as it was in a very trashed state compared to earlier pics from reports.
Its obvious to see the stripping thats gone on here plus just about every gauge was smashed.
Up on the roof was impressive too sadly the heavens had opened when i was inside so i couldnt really get a decent shot from up there.
It wasnt the magnets i was worried about more the downpour i was experiencing.
Thats it despite the rain it was still well worth the effort of getting there and back in a day using public transport from the other side of the country. This is more of an update really as to how the place continues to deteriorate. I hope to get back to see other parts as this is only a fraction of the site.
