In 1873 the process of dynamite manufacture was established at Ardeer by The British Dynamite Company.

The British Dynamite Company advised by Nobel, had chosen a desolate site far from houses, because public opinion was suspicious of a product whose qualities were not completely understood.

It's still pretty far from anywhere that land is in high demand, and now after lying derelict since the mid 90's ardeer is one of the most unusual explores I've ever been on.
