So, I have been doing a bit of exploring for many years, going back to about 1997. But have never really shared any of it, so thought I'd start.

Summer last year (2019) I decided to visit the Isle of Grain in Kent having heard about Grain Fort, which was built in the 1860's to protect the River Medway (which housed the Royal Naval Docks at Chatham) plus it protected the river Thames and access to London. At the time of construction tensions were quite high between the UK and France. The fort was altered during the Second World War which included adding bomb proof shelters. However I 1956 the fort was decommissioned and many of the building around the fort were demolished.

To get to the fort there is a bit of a trek through the mud as it actually sits about 0.6 miles out into the estuary, so don't wear nice trainers or anything

The fort is now in private hands and actually up for sale for the tidy sum of £2M (although you ca probably double that to make it livable)

Attached are a few shots of the fort inside and out, plus a couple of other places I came across while at the Isle of Grain. Great place and will defo be going again so please let me know of any other sites around there :)

Nicely covered, looks good in b&w. I like it here. My shots weren't very good as my urbex partner was paranoid about the tide, so I missed so much. I was thinking about going back with a not so wimpy explorer lol.
I recommend walking out about 1.5 hours before lowest tide levels then you get a good period of time there. If you way too early just go and check out the tunnels

Will definitely be checking as Im taking a somewhat nervous hubby lol. The nearby tunnels I guess I may re shoot again alone lol. But thanks for tip. Its a good idea 1.5 hrs, gives me plenty of time.
