J H Weatherby's pottery was founded in Tunstall in 1891 and moved to Hanley the following year. The company first produced domestic wares such as basins and ewers, lthen moved into tableware and giftware, and also hotelware which ultimatelly led to its downfall. At it's height it employed over two hundred people but towards the end of its life this was reduced to around fifty at the turn of 2000, dropping to ten by April 2000. Christopher Weatherby, the great-great grandson of company founder John Henry Weatherby said: ‘‘We have decided to cease trading and are in the process of finishing off stock and things like that. Basically we've decided to close down before someone else forced us to – while we are solvent rather than insolvent"
According to the article in the Sentinel newspaper dated April 27th 2000 J H Weatherby & Sons (Ltd) Weatherby's was one of the last remaining family owned potteries.

I only had half an hour unfortunately, I could have stayed all day. I know I missed a lot and I really hope I will be able to go back sometime. It was a lovely relaxed (even if it was rather rushed) explore with so much to see. I would recommend popping in if anyone is in the area.

Anyway, some pics:-
