It's Saturday morning, and the unexpected opportunity for a quick drive round Batley has materialised. The tall tower of a mill is clearly visable above the roofscape, and certainly worth a quick trip to see. I'd expected to see a converted mill, but was pleased to see I wasn't too late.
J.T and J. Taylor moved here in 1913, bringing their large woolen business to a custom made 5 story mill
Surrounding the main mill are a number of beautiful old buildings. Today access wasn't on to all, which was a shame. Some externals.
Tantalising swing doors, two floors up.
This mill was responsible for all processes of the woolen industry, from the raw wool, to finished cloth.
Of course, today it is being converted into apartments by the same company who did large mills in nearby Dewsbury and Mirfield.
Not much remains in the main building, but thankfully a closer look reveals some gems.
