I stumbled across this place completely by accident on the way to another site. Worth a little wonder about if you happen to be in the area.

History
I wouldn't say the history of this site is particularly interesting to be honest. JF Pearce is a haulage company which serves the south and the Midlands and has done so for over 50 years. They specialise in haulage for builders merchants, manufacturers and rail networks...which makes sense when you consider its close proximity to the surrounding quarries in the Mendips. Incidentally there is a train track which passes alongside the site leading nearby to Mendip Rail station - they specialise in freight from the various quarries in the region - and would probably have worked alongside JF Pearce in the moving of product.

From what I can pick up JF Pearce rented this site out for a number of years then moved just up the road to their new site a couple of years ago.

Explore
According to Google maps this place is still in use but now boulders have been placed in front of the place to stop traffic going in or out. The most interesting thing about the site are the structures that have been left behind...

Office building looking back at the entrance.

The old trailer in the far corner is still full of rocks from a local quarry

By far the most interesting structure on the site. I guess his the old workshop.

A couple of the offices are open but the main building is sealed.

Some paving slabs and blocks still remain strewn about the place

The old canteen

One of the office outbuildings

All in all, a good little backup explore with
some interesting features... Stay safe.

Not bad. If you're in Shepton Mallet and have a few hours to kill, go and have a look at the old prison. It's a tour jobby but they're self guided and are well worth the poke for a very reasonable price!
