Early one morning after a failed attempt elsewhere I noticed that the locals had been busy, and the old Johnsons building in Bootle was open. Now this is a pretty grim place - I knew from the previous report in 2011 (https://www.28dayslater.co.uk/threads/johnsons-the-cleaners-bootle-liverpool-sept-11.64612/) that there was nothing inside, but well, it was there and I could at least watch the sunrise from the roof.

History taken in part from http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/601967. This is what remains of Johnsons dying and cleaning works which occupied the rest of wasteland in which the building now sits. I can’t find when it was built but it looks 1950s. The origins of the drycleaning business go back to 1817 when Johnson Brothers started in business in Liverpool as silk dyers. In 1920 they joined forces with two other drycleaning companies, and "Johnsons the Cleaners" (now Johnson Cleaners) was born. The firm left its Bootle HQ for new premises in Prescot in 2007. Plans were approved at that time for the conversion of the building to apartments and retail premises but nothing has happened and it was eventually completely boarded up a few years ago. Pictures are ordered from the ground floor up.

Used to work for them. Been in there a few times when it was still used . They’d already started to move out the other departments when I was last there. They had problems with contamination of the land when they tried to sell it due to chemical spillages from years before when little was know about the long term effects of the solvents and H&S wasn’t quite so strict. Thanks for the report, it’s good if a little strange to see it again as it is now :)

Shame there's not much to see inside, but the externals are great - I'm quite a fan of the ~50's brick buildings and their curvy corners.
the roof view is great! inside is just a hall
