History
Kellingley Colliery was the last deep coal mine in Britain. It was situated at Beal in North Yorkshire, about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) east of Knottingley in West Yorkshire, on the A645 and 3.6 miles (5.8 km) east of Ferrybridge power station. The colliery's location was influenced by the proximity of road, rail, and canal routes. Its workings extended into West Yorkshire. The colliery was owned and operated by UK Coal. The colliery closed on 18 December 2015.Its closure marked the end of the era of deep-pit coal mining in Britain.

As the last of the demolition team left the site in the early evening I made my way. I spent an hour and a half taking in as much as I could but in the end the fading light got the better. There is still much more to be seen but with active security, workers living on site in caravans and dark winter nights I think this is the best I can hope for. Slightly picture heavy but hopefully you will enjoy!

Thanks for the comment. Yep it seemed to be just the one man and his dog!

I have looked through the other reports and it's looking a bit worse now compared to some of those. I climbed the outside of the headstocks but access inside must have changed, a lot of areas were fenced off.

How much seca on site... want to visit this place

I recommend the early evening as the demolition workers appear to work late and some are living on the site.

It appeared to be just the one security guard accompanied by a German Shepherd.

There are lots of cameras around the site but it doesn't seem as though anybody is watching ;-).
