nice day for a stroll in the..........mud :banghead

meet up with rigsby, larey and rooks for an nice little walk round the cement works, seeing the big chimney in the distance we couldnt get there quick enough, having a look on google earth the places looks massive, but i didnt expect it to be this big even inside the machines are massive

we covered about 70% of the big stuff and looked in most of the sheds but didnt do the silos, the weather was coming in and it was getting late before we knew it we where walking in the darkness to get out

oh and this is the first place i have seen with a speed camera on site,i guess to catch staff speeding about, but it was a little to close to the security hut to get a pic so i will leave it to someone else to get:crazy

cheers all was a good day out :thumb

entrance to the big hanger for storing the raw mix, cement dust has reshaped the entrance and looks melted

the big rotary kiln building
IMG_8954800x533.jpg

next up we headed in to see the rotary kilns, the colours in here are amazing, the rusted metals the different colour lights, they all just had a nice glow about them, the hot end was all dark and warm and the exhaust end was all dusty and cold looking

IMG_8900640x427.jpg

rooks inside no1 heater, giant size fans use to blow the warm in from the kilns below, this one has been disconected
IMG_8907768x800.jpg

this is no1 kiln deep under the rotary, warm and wet still and loads of flashing lights
IMG_8919800x533.jpg

no2 heat exchanger still connected up
IMG_8890800x533.jpg

no2 rotary
IMG_8667800x533.jpg

IMG_8673800x533.jpg

these are the driving gear used to rotate the drum they are positioned every 100ft or so
IMG_8681800x533.jpg

no1 rotary down at the cold end looking back up to the hot end, this is where the drum meets the exhaust's that lead to the chimney
IMG_8740800x533.jpg

IMG_8760800x533.jpg

another drive wheel
IMG_8774800x533.jpg

control room for the older smaller rotarys that they have in place, we couldnt find the 2 big ones
IMG_9009800x533-1.jpg

then we started to head out, but then i guess it wouldnt be right to leave with out seeing the live part that is still in use, this place bags up all the cement in brand new hitech looking machines the feeds them in to the warehouse
