Its funny how you travel hundreds of miles for various derps and keep forgetting about the ones right on your doorstep. I must have walked past this place hundreds of times.
I thought it might be interesting to have a look inside, but my suspicion that it would be stripped turned out true… as it’s pretty grim in there now. There’s not a great deal left of interest, but there was however, on rummaging around, a few things dotted about that gave a few clues as to what it used to be.
Liverpool House was originally a department store, apparently one of the best in Sunderland during its heyday in the 1950s and 60’s. It closed down and re-opened as “Style Furnishings†a furniture shop, until that too closed in the 1990’s. It was bought by the council in 2013 and their plan from what I've heard is to demolish the building and built apartments on the site.
