This is one I had been eying up for some time - a complex called the Derby and Hartley buildings on Liverpool University campus (these date from 1901-1905 - there is a brief description in Pevsner). Parts of it appeared to be derelict, other parts maybe just poorly maintained. After spending most of a day in here the situation seems to be that the three departments last occupying these buildings (engineering, biology and archeology) moved out sometime between 2005 and 2010, the ground floor is mainly used for storage of excess furniture and preparations are being made to strip it out and refurbish. Interior pictures go from the basement up.

Main entrance (evidently used to be zoology) and a rear view.

Typical civil engineering type stuff down in the basement

The most interesting things here were the faded posters of student projects on the walls. A fair amount of stuff about crashing Jaguars - presumably the engineering dept had/has some connection with the nearby Jaguar-Landrover plant. I spent a while playing with the boxes of knapping flints in the archaeology lab but didn’t take a picture of these.

Some research-type labs

A couple of lecture theatres - not very practical looking, needing special curtain-winders.

A bunch more rooms and a lot of offices, some empty, some with out-of-date computers and paperwork.

Engineers do like their model bridges - several of these scattered around.

Overall, a bit of a mixed bag.
Now, your starter for 10, no conferring, describe the main contribution of each of these guys (on the back of nearby building).

I think I did it all except for the laser treatment bit at the back of the Hartley - small building at the bottom left of the external rear view above.
Not sure what's going on with this place but I suspect kids are getting in - just a matter of time before campus security notices.
