Long time, no post - it's a long story

Anyways, Long Marston is under threat of development. CALA homes want to put 3000 homes across the entire site.
They want to have the first batch lived in by 2017. So, visit or document this place while you still can, because it wont be long before the fencing goes up.

Planning objections never get a development like this stopped, but if there were enough pressure put on Stratford DC, then maybe some of the relics could be saved, like the pillboxes in the northeast part of the site.

Not sure TBH, I'll have to take a look soonish. Now I have a car again, I will try to get down there over the next few days.

Drag strip still going, big meeting last weekend. Thought the planners gave the nod towards another site, near Gaydon?

Looking at current plans, they want to concrete over half of Warwickshire :(

If Long Marston does get developed, it is a partial resurrection of the 'Middle Quinton' eco-town plan, that got dropped as a governmnent project, but I'd assume the airfield owner and the developer have come to an agreement anyway.
the site by Gaydon is a separate proposal on greenfield land.
there's also plans to significantly expand Stratford, Warwick and Leamington, but I don't think there's much UE potential in those proposed development areas as these too are mainly greenfield

It is not as if they are unique really! and Pillbox Study Group is aware of them.

I think the pillboxes are outside of the development area anyway?

Up here in North Yorkshire new development areas are springing up everywhere as well. In Harrogate a former WW2 Fuel Depot site is being decontaminated with the removal of tons of top soil

OK guys, I jut got back from there.

It's a gonner. :( most of the planes have gone, except the gate guardian plane in Global Gathering livery, the Shak and the Meteor, which are both in terrible condition.
the train carriages from the bit behind the drag strip are also gone.
There is still a small amount of old earth moving plant if that's your thing, and the pillboxes at the top of the site. Otherwise there ain't really much to see now.

I certainly wouldn't recommend traveling any real distance to take a look.

Makes you wonder, all the plane spotters that gave us grief for going in those planes, and when it comes to it, even the people that are supposed to be the guardians don't give a shit.
