After visiting Lots Road Power Station (see previous posts), we went to the Sewage Pumping Station next door
Outside with diesel exhaust pipes sticking up. The words say: London County Council
Level indicator showing height of sewage in the suction well
Air compressors on the left to provide air for starting the Diesels
A view looking the other way
5 six-cylinder Bellis & Morcom diesel engines and bevel-drive gearboxes drive the pumps in the basement
And again
Cooling water pipes are blue and lubricating oil are brown
Close-up of gearbox
And again
View from the engine walkway
And again. Note electric pumps in the distance
You can just make out the cooling water flowing out the bent pipes into the hoppers.
