Yes, it is this place again. Was in the area so decided to jump on the bus.

History

This peculiar building is centred around a main structure that has a listed status and was built around 1720. The building itself has some interesting features and there is also a separate listing entry for the walled garden situated on the land. At some point, sections of the adjoining buildings have been converted to use as flats. The decoration and fittings differ quite drastically in these areas.

The previous owner, Mrs Gina Gratton-Storey, bequeathed the property to be shared by two major charities and it has been unoccupied since her passing. The charities then instructed a local planning firm to secure the necessary permission for renovation work, as well as the construction of new homes on the land associated with the property. This second part of the planning scheme was an effort to 'ensure that the value of the site was maximised prior to the proceeds being left to two very worthy charities'. Let it never be said that these organisations miss a trick.

The explore

I visited with the wife early on a lovely Sunday morning, as is our usual approach. It was odd seeing lights on inside the building, even having been made aware that this would be the case. This of course also made it a tricky place to take pictures, with the natural light from outside clashing with the artificial light inside.

It is a bloody weird place this, with some rooms pretty much intact, whilst others are suffering some serious rot and decay. Stranger still is the layout. In some sections it feels almost as if there are rooms stacked randomly about each other. Short sets of stairs lead here and there calling back to the works of MC Escher.

It was a delightful place for a Sunday mooch with loads to see and as we got there so early, we had the place to ourselves - unlike those who ventured in later in the day.

As usual, I could ramble on so instead, have some pictures.

The front exterior of the main building.

There are references online to this wing, called the Dower House. This section will be demolished under the current approved planning application. Interestingly there are also some surviving goldfish in the pond in this picture. The water they are in is fairly horrid so hopefully someone can find a way to rescue them.

We started at this end and tried to work our way round.

This old refrigerator was being used for the storage of general tools. Beats throwing them on the floor I guess.

Then into the main building, where it appears there had been a recent party of sorts.

This office area felt as if the owner would be back at any moment, doubtless in part because of the desk lamp being switched on.

The main entrance hall is certainly eye catching. Some of the doors had clear plastic door handles which, along with the pale wood, seemed quite wrong in a place like this.

But that barely prepared us for the decor in the upstairs hallway.

The upstairs wardrobes had been recently ransacked and the contents were scattered around.

And of course, we mustn't forget the pool. I loved this as it was just so far gone.

And that is about it for me. If you made it through the whole lot then well done and thank you.

When were these photos taken? I heard last night of rumors of a rave, still looks untouched

I saw that on the chat box bud but I was in there beforehand. Got in before some lovely people spray painted the place too.

Least it's creative graffiti, I quite like that although all types aren't welcome

Yeah it's not bad graffiti tbh. Ridiculous amount of people were there on Monday but don't think there was a rave. Would be ideal though, the hot water is still on in places as well as the power

Welcome to 28 days later, for a limited time only if you post the exact name and location of a property, you can expect it to be trashed in no time at all, or even better visited by exploring with 'dickhead' and other infamous goon-tubers alike. Sign up now or jump on the nearest herpy derpy tour bus!

Only reason i gave this place away was from the forum rules, you now have too. Sucks other places better than this are in much a worse state, with luddington house being a prime example right now.

I don't doubt that this place has gained prominence after being here but to blame this forum for all of it is (I feel at least) short sighted.

I spoke with the neighbour whose property is directly behind the garages when I was there. He was quite pleasant (had a lovely motorbike) and said that they had been aware of people going into the place since last year. Up until now they haven't had reason to complain and he saw it as fairly harmless, which I concede may now have changed. The fact is though that if you knew about it then the likelihood is that others did too. I was told about the place by another person involved in the hobby about a month ago - one way or another the location gets out. These places are rarely kept a secret and this one is particularly easy, as it is obviously unoccupied when seen from the street.

I totally agree, it's a shame it was given away so quick could've continued to be kept under the radar for a while longer, wondering how kids got to it so quick compared to other places in the same area

I understand that its inevitable, but it would be nice to slow down the process, if theres a site that has decent photographic value to it then I prefer to keep it well away from any forum or terrible social media page, but thats my opinion...

I never shove this stuff on social media, someone else found seven pines from me and spread it to Instagram, that's where the bad guys find it. Had the same two guys caught on film parking outside and allegedly doing the initial chandelier damage. Really sad
