Visited this place the week before last. I was really looking forward to it as the site had an abandoned DIY superstore on site as well but this proved to be no more exciting that a big empty space with a ceiling...not even worth a picture!
The 'stute was a working man's club built in 1928 for the workers who came to work at the Lysaght steel plant in Newport. The plant had previously been based in Wolverhampton and most of the workers relocated to Newport along with the plant. In its later years it was apparently the place for the good people of Newport to get their groove on at the weekends.
I thought because security kept the fences around this place fresh that this place would be mint...wrong!! The chavs had been through here but luckily their arson attempts had been unsuccessful and there was still a bit to see.
Areas of interest were the main hall and skittles alley (complete with piano) downstairs.
Looks like this place might be saved and turned into a restaurant after plans flatten it for a McDonalds/KFC etc etc concrete fest failed. Apologies for lack of/quality of exterior shots - it was pissing it down!!
