There's a recently vacated RAF base nearby
And wen for a bit of a nose. Looked easy access, but lost my bottle when I read the warning sign of 5000 fine 6 months prison.
I know may sound like a daft question.......should I give this one a miss or is it just scare tactics. Please give an honest answer as my backside could be on the line here...literally.

Several factors here.

What base is it? If it's one of these I wouldn't even drive past it... https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/sites-affected-by-socap

Then what you have to think about is...

What's the chances of getting caught? If you do get caught, it's supposed to be trespass only even if it's MOD.

If it's closed, check to see if the MOD police still patrol or man the guardhouse.

Finally, are there any signs that would indicate whether the site is for sale or has been disposed of to another agency?

Thanks for the advice.
Its not any of the ones on the list.
Not sure about it being up for sale, there is a for sale sign but that could be for a site opposite.
There's still a bit too much activity there at the moment but it looks civilian.
I think a bit more investigation is needed before I attempt this one. If I attempt this one. This may be out of my league

The MoD tend to leave the signs up when they vacate a location, and unless it has an alterative use, say as a training area or emergency landing strip ownership is transferred over to the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) for sale or transfer to other government departments.

As OT says other than a few key sites listed add operational airfields & ammunition depots, most are simple trespass!

Not knowing the location does not help, and I am sure if you PM OT he may be able to help.
