Man Wa is a small village located on the west coast of Park Island, Hong Kong. Once a thriving fishing village, Ma Wan village now lies abandoned, decaying under the Park Island residential complex and Tsing Ma bridge. In 2010 most residents had been evicted after Thomas Kwok’s Sun Hung Kai Properties bought most of the land. A few people still live in the village and we saw many locals returning to their old homes to spend the day. Many houses are padlocked shut and are inaccessible due to collapsed ceilings. In the centre sits the Tin Hau Temple which is still open and is up-kept by the locals. There was a security guard there, which we spoke to before venturing into houses, he was there to protect the houses that were still used by some locals and was totally fine with us exploring.

Apologies for some blurry photos, it was pissing with rain when we there.

Also made a video while there -
