'Maltby Grammar School was built in 1932 and includes a south-facing, twenty-bay, two-storey range with a near central entrance and clock tower. It is this range with its prominent clock tower which is the principal focus of architectural interest in the school.'
The school became a sponsored academy in 2010 after 'several years of underachievement'. In 2012 it was announced the old grammar school buildings would be demolished and replaced with a boring modern secondary school. This included the planned demolition of the 1930's central clock tower block, until locals moaned to the council and got the building 'saved'. If leaving it to derp with no future plans constitutes being 'saved' that is...

This is one me and @Gsxrwayne first had a look at back in November 2019 but it was pretty secure back then. I've checked it in passing every time I found myself up the M18 but have just never dropped lucky on it. One of those frustrating places where an opening would only lead to a small corridor and a barricaded door! This time when we turned up however it looked as though mega pikey activities had taken place and we finally managed to have a proper look.
Inside it's quite nice for a little chunk of a demolished school, despite quite extensive vandalism in places. Nice early modernist style architecture and rather fetching brown and yellow tiling throughout.
