Martello Tower in Cork Har our completed in 1850. Only connected to mainland by the train line so the only way to access it is by kayak during high tide.

Martello Towers Generally have round staircases but the stairwell has been destroyed in this tower presumably to stop people reaching the rooftop.

the doorway was over 3metres off the ground outside so I made a makeshift ladder out of driftwood to get in.

Nice! Kayaking access sounds fun too. I’ve always eyed up the castle behind Fota from the little island side but no luck yet.

Kayaking is the only option. I don't think Irish Rail would take too kindly to walking on the tracks!
