Located in Market Warsop. The Strand Cinema opened in 1936. It was independently operated and closed as a cinema in 1961. it later became Strand Bingo and social club as most do.
The building has a facade of hand-made brick, with a central stone feature. Inside the auditorium there is a curved proscenium, and the building is little altered from its opening.
the building has recently been sold to tesco though an agreement is in place to keep the frontage.

A great explore even as a permission visit, its amazing what a box of fosters lager can do and some persistance to enable access!

decided to have a nose round in the ajoining store rooms and after moving some tables away came across this which I can only assume is the projector or some part of it.

Great report. How did you manage "permission". I want to go there and it would be great to get other than just exteriors.

According to what I read on Cinema Treasures it`s been closed 6 years (I think).

Let us know what you find then cos Tesco are going to demolish the auditorium to extend their car park and create an entrance to the right of the facade area.

Oh, by the way, the bulb-like gadget you saw and thought was to do with projection IS, but only indirectly. It`s the remains of a Mercury Arc Rectifier which converts (or leastways did) AC current to DC for the projector arc light.
