Well this closed airport in Thanet, Kent, is in the newspapers today (something about the local council planning a compulsory purchase order and re-opening it). Seems it closed in May 2014 and must have been of fair size as British Airways did Airbus 380 crew training here as well as Flybe and other carriers running flights from it.

Might be worth somebody local investigating

Manston Airpot has one of the longest runways in the country its been rumoured for many a year to be an international airport but inept planning dept has held it back since the raf left it decades ago

It's a hot topic locally, massive amount of debate going on about the future of the site.

I can tell you the terminal building is totally devoid of anything remotely interesting and most of the out buildings are empty now as well because the current site owners have stripped the place of any assets remotely worth anything, and haven't exactly done it in a considerate manner. It will never open again, mark my words.

theres nothing there worth any effort. Its a long stretch of the imagination to call it an airport. its a runway with a few tin outbuildings and has had a huge ramp up in security with cameras, lighting and patrols put in place. There is now security stationed at every entrance, gate, exit, broken fence sections 24/7. Seems over the top to be honest. It has been disused for months now and even when in use there was never much activity. It is now being used for operation stack and the runway has been converted into parking spaces for the lorries.

I live sort of local and this is indeed a hot topic but as one of the other posters say its crawling with security 24/7 and the arsehole new owners really were not kind and have stripped everything even the poor family with their aviation hangar had to move out :( such a shame but I think it will be open again at some stage its just been mismanaged down the years. To let you all know that plane on the grass opposite the terminal has now since been taken apart and removed there really is nothing there to look at.
