Mecca Bingo Halifax was a bingo hall in a striking Art Deco building on the corner of Broad Street and Orange Street (HX1 1YA), on the edge of Halifax town centre.
Built as the Odeon Cinema by architect George Coles, it opened in June 1938 with 2,058 seats. Its distinctive façade featured concave bays of buff faience tiles and a tall Art Deco tower. The cinema closed in 1975, was damaged by fire the following year, and converted into a Top Rank Bingo Club in 1977 (later Mecca Bingo).
For decades it was Halifax’s main bingo venue, seating around 600, with sessions, slots, a bar and food. It closed permanently on 14 August 2022. The empty building was sold at auction in late 2023 for £256,000 and remains standing, though a small roof fire occurred in 2024.
