Unfortunately half the site is inaccessible because of locked & padlocked doors,
fortunately I managed to access half the site, reaching the second floor was a bit of a ball ache.
It's frustrating because there's equipment on part of the 2nd & 3rd floors, (which I couldn't access).
well worth the effort tho.
Midland mills is a former flax mill which opened in 1793, by John Judd.
The mills were sold in the 18th century to a firm diversifying in textile machinery,
which sold machinery to national & local mills inc entrepreneur Benjamin Gott.
The mills were then sold to the Drabble brothers which were in the employment of John Marshall & Matthew Murray,
the firm went bankrupt in 1812 because of a disagreement between the 2 brothers
the mills were then sold to Taylor Wordsworth & co 2 former employees of the Drabble brothers
by the 1850s both Taylor & Wordsworth had died, but the company continued trading.
In the 1930s Platts bought the site, Platts became the largest textile machine makers in the world
the site closed in 1981 because of a decline in manufacturing & a recession & platts followed in 1982.
The closure of Midland mills marked the finish of the textile industry in Leeds,
since 1981 Midland mills has been divided into industrial units.
Midland mills closed in 2022 & is currently for sale.
