Report - Mossley Manor Care Home - Liverpool - March 2019

I know that this is nothing new to the site but hope it will still be of interest.

The history

Originally built (albeit with later extensions) in the mid 1800s, this building has been used for quite a few different purposes before ending up as it sits today. It started its existence as a private estate, before serving varied needs prior to its most recent incarnation as a care home.

This however, was not a care home that you or I would wish to call 'home'. Following a tip off from the mother of a new resident, the CQC visited the site unannounced. The conditions inside were so poor that not only did this lead to the closure of the home, but also a fine of £82,000 for the owners. The building is now for sale for £2.5 million.

The explore

I had a three day weekend in Liverpool for my birthday and had a number of places I wanted to visit. Having seen this place here I added it to my list and so myself and the better half wound up parking nearby on a beautiful Sunday morning. We said a cheery good morning to the previously reported grumpy neighbour and headed onto the grounds.

A weird pattern of fast, heavy showers mixed with bright sunshine meant that even though the sun shone when we entered and exited, it was dripping quite heavily inside. Though I know this is down to the fact that a lot of the roof seems to be scattered on the floor around the site, it still felt quite strange. Interior wise, the place is a mess and the winter water damage has not helped. Realistically, were it not for the entry hall and that window, it would not be of huge interest but as they are so unique I was glad to see them.

Anyhow that's enough waffle from me, hope you like the pictures.

Quite soulless and modern(ish) at first.

Then you start to encounter a dot of character.

And of course, the obligatory wheelchair shot.

I was amused by the sheer bloody mindedness of nailing an internal door over a window here.

Some nice details have escaped the suspended ceilings.

And then of course, the star of social media itself, that entrance hall.

After a brief seat by the window, we made our way off to our next location.

actually really like the look of this, that would have been quite an impressive building and interior once upon a time. Reminds me a lot of Summerland's lodge care home in Margate. the stairs and window are very similar. :thumb

Nice report bud. Good to see the window is still intact :thumb
Thank you! One small section damaged on the window but I guess if they hadn't at least tried to protect it then it would be ruined by now.

Thank you very much, having looked up Summerlands I can certainly see the similarities.

Cheers! Staircase is just off from the main stairwell on the first floor. If I remember rightly, at the top of the wooden stairs you just take a right.

ahh i think i know the one but they've been burnt now so they look a lot diffrent, but still good shots!
