I've got to give credit where credit is due - I've tried to do find some sources regarding the history of this place so I can avoid having to quote the effort of other explorers who have managed to write a decent introduction / history of the place and I clearly can't Google well enough.

It appears Murphy's Machinery, or Imperial Works (or both?) originated in / around the 1930's and manufactured tools and machines primarily for Tanneries (leather manufacturing). If you want to know more, Google this place and there are some excellent write ups from other explorers who have managed to find maps, drawings of the building's layout and historical references - props to these guys.

In truth, we ended up here very shortly after arriving at High Royds Asylum which was main reason for ending up in Leeds after having driven down from Manchester - it just simply didn't seem do-able and even if it was, it didn't seem worth it (conversion well under way).

I'm glad we ended up at Murphy's though - plenty to see and it's nice to have discovered a place which hasn't been absolutely trashed (most explores to date have). Having looked at a few other reports from the last couple of years of this place there are some things which have gone missing - the iconic 'You must punch in!' wasn't about.

Enjoyed this place.

Gutted I didn't get a front cover picture of the outside of the place, not sure how I forgot that!

Nice report, having been here literally within the last 2 weeks it's sad to see that the clock face has been smashed now. I loved those chains hanging about :thumb
